How do I write a CV for a Trades job?

Your potential new boss in the construction industry will be expecting something different to what you might find on ordinary CV tutorials. See our top tips to help you find more work!

Leave out…

Your personal interests

This is a CV, not a dating profile! Site manager’s taking a look at your CV will only want to read what’s necessary to decide if you are right for their project. Make sure that they read about your employable skills rather than your love of football.

Photographs of yourself

Make sure that you are judged first for your achievements rather than your image. Here at ionic we don’t discriminate but sadly we can’t say the same for every site manager in construction.

Spelling Mistakes…

Make sure you run a spell check once you’ve finished! Have you used you’re and your properly? Perhaps get a friend to read it through after running your spellcheck to make sure it reads well – computers don’t always pick up on everything…

Keep it to 2 pages if possible

Employers and agencies can receive hundreds of CV’s a week! Keep your CV punchy and to the point with an aim of 1-2 pages that tell employers everything they need to know.

Text Boxes

If you are sending your CV by email avoid using text boxes. With different people having different versions and settings on their programs it can sometimes not appear the way you intended!

…and a quick mention on PDF’s

PDF’s are tricky to deal with sometimes. Trust us. Use a word processing tool like Word to make your potential employers life easier.

Keep in…
